WORKSHOPS & TRAINING
Drawing on our expertise in natural building techniques, we provide extensive theoretical presentations and case studies showcasing innovative building technologies developed over 30 years of mastering building science. Additionally, Andy has facilitated various institute accredited training workshops on natural building techniques, benefiting both his own projects and those of other individuals and architectural firms.
WORKSHOP TYPES:
The following workshops are on offer, facilitated by Andy Horn:

Strawbale Construction
The Straw bale construction workshop is a 2.5-day workshop which will be split into chapters, comprising out of a thorough theoretical lecture and a hands on practical sessions. offered on-line and in person The first part of the course will be the theoretical chapter offered online or in person and should the need occur one can only attend the theoretical part of the course. In the 2-day hands on practical chapter of the workshop one will learn Eco Designs way of building with straw bale constructions which involves the preplaster earthing coating system called the "cob-bale building system". This system combines the best of strawbale, being the speed & insulation, with the cob building which is solidity and durability, creating a monolithic building system. Cob work is an integral part of straw bale construction and will be learned in the course.

Natural Plastering
The plastering workshop is a full day of exploring the artisanal craft of combining the correct ration of sand to clay and sand to lime for both internal and external plastering applications.

Adobe Construction
The Adobe brick making workshop will enhance your knowledge about soil and earth testing to empower you to be confident to use the correct soil ratio to make weather with standing and structural integral bricks.

Cob Construction
The Cob construction workshop will be a 2- day duration exercise. Combining the correct ratio of sand to clay and strengthening the mix with straw. This creates a sculptural monolithic building structure known for its high thermal mass properties.

Light Clay Straw Construction
The technology of Light Clay Straw panels has been fine tuned by Eco Design to be precast panels which allows for the work to happen off site.

Sandbag Building
Eco Design Architects and Consultants offer an infill sandbag building system workshop. In the course one will learn how to construct the timber frame of the structure and how to securely construct the sandbag walls.
