The Twinstreams Environmental Centre's Staff Housing is based near Mtunzini, in Kwa-Zulu Natal. This sand bag and timber pole construction made use of the available local natural material to allow for the local community’s maximum involvement, while minimizing costs. Other features include, dry composting toilets, solar water heaters and grey water reuse.

Geof Bold was the engineer on site involved in the design of the structure and its innovative building system. Martin Wolhuter of, IIL plumbing and construction was the main contractor.

In 2004 this project was awarded Africa's Sustainable Building Best Practice Award for residential projects by the Union of African Architects.
